Cordless Honeycomb Shades for a New Build: Blackout Bedrooms, TV Rooms & Day-Night Bathrooms

New construction gives homeowners the rare opportunity to plan every detail from the start — including window treatments. In this project, we outfitted an entire new-build home with cordless honeycomb cellular shades, selecting different configurations for each room based on how the space is used. Blackout Honeycomb Shades for Bedrooms The bedrooms received full blackout honeycomb shades in a cordless configuration. Honeycomb (cellular) shades are constructed with a distinctive pocket structure — air gets trapped inside each cell, creating a layer of natural insulation that helps regulate room temperature year-round. In winter, the cells reduce heat loss through the glass; in summer, they block solar heat gain and keep the room cool. The blackout fabric ensures zero light penetration — ideal for restful sleep, afternoon naps, or anyone sensitive to early morning sunlight. Because this is a new build with standard-height windows, the cordless spring mechanism works perfectly: a gentle pull on the bottom rail raises or lowers the shade smoothly and locks it at any position without cords or chains.
