In this project, we elevated the classic Roman shade with motorization, delivering that timeless aesthetic with the convenience of push-button control. The Beauty of the Roman Fold What makes a Roman shade instantly recognizable is the way the fabric folds as it's raised. Rather than rolling around a tube like a roller shade or accordion-pleating like a honeycomb, a Roman shade gathers into wide, cascading horizontal folds that stack beautifully at the top of the window. When fully lowered, the fabric lies flat and smooth — a clean, unbroken panel of colour and texture. When raised, the stacked folds create a soft, sculpted valance effect. This dual personality is part of the Roman shade's enduring appeal: it's functional and decorative at the same time. Even when fully raised, it adds visual interest to the window rather than disappearing entirely. Why Motorize a Roman Shade? Traditional Roman shades use a cord-and-cleat system to raise and lower the fabric — you pull a cord, the shade lifts, and you secure the cord on a wall cleat.
