Custom Roller Shades Canada — Blackout, Solar, Motorized

Custom roller shades made to order in hundreds of fabrics. Blackout, light filtering, solar and motorized options. Free samples shipped Canada-wide.

Custom roller shades Canada-wide are the most popular window treatment we sell — and for good reason. A single panel of fabric rolls cleanly into a slim cassette at the top of the window, giving you a minimalist, architectural look that disappears when raised and frames the view beautifully when lowered. Every roller is custom made to your exact window opening, with hundreds of fabric options ranging from full blackout roller shades for bedrooms, to translucent screens that filter light, to open-weave solar shades that reduce glare and UV while preserving the view outside. Add motorized roller shades Canada homeowners can control from a phone, remote, or voice assistant — and you've replaced cords with a clean, safe, smart-home-ready upgrade. Order online, get wholesale roller shades pricing direct from the installer, and have free samples on your doorstep within a week.

Choosing a roller shade.

The fabric decides almost everything about how a roller shade behaves, so it is the best place to start. Roller shades come in three broad families: blackout, light-filtering and solar (also called screen). Each one handles light, privacy and the view outside differently, and most homes end up using more than one.

Blackout fabric is a solid, opaque material that stops daylight from passing through the cloth. It suits bedrooms, nurseries and media rooms, where darkness at nap time or early on a summer morning matters more than seeing outside. Shift workers and light sleepers usually start here.

Light-filtering fabric is translucent. It lets soft daylight in while blurring shapes, so a room stays bright and you are not on display to the street. It works well in kitchens, dining areas and living rooms, and in home offices where you want daylight without the full force of the sun on your desk.

Solar or screen fabric is woven with small openings. It cuts glare and some of the sun's UV while keeping a view to the outdoors. It is a strong choice for south-facing windows, sunrooms and living spaces that look onto a yard or the water. Keep in mind that most screen fabrics offer less privacy after dark, when the room is lit and the outside is not.

A simple rule of thumb: pick blackout where you sleep, light-filtering where you live, and solar where the sun or the view is the main event.

Operation options: chain, cordless or motorized.

Once the fabric is chosen, decide how you want to raise and lower the shade. A continuous chain loop is the classic choice: simple, dependable and easy for anyone in the house to use. It works well on larger or heavier shades where lifting by hand would be awkward.

Cordless roller shades remove the loop entirely. You guide the bottom bar up or down by hand and it stays where you leave it, which gives a tidy look and keeps cords out of reach of children and pets.

Motorized roller shades run from a remote, a phone app or a voice assistant, and can follow a schedule so bedrooms darken at night and living spaces open in the morning. They make sense for tall windows, hard-to-reach spots and rooms with several shades that you want to move together.

Mounting and measuring.

Roller shades can sit inside the window frame or outside it. An inside mount fits within the opening for a clean, built-in look, but it needs enough depth for the roller and leaves a small gap of light at the edges. An outside mount attaches to the wall or trim above the window and overlaps the opening, which covers more of the glass and helps a blackout fabric darken a room more fully.

Accurate measurements matter because every shade is cut to size. Measure width and height in more than one place and write down each number before ordering. If you are unsure, our team can measure for you.

Frequently asked questions

How do I clean roller shades?

For regular care, dust the fabric with a soft brush or a vacuum on its brush setting while the shade is lowered. Spot-clean small marks with a damp cloth and mild soap, dab rather than scrub, and let the fabric dry fully before rolling it up.

Are roller shades safe for homes with children and pets?

Cordless and motorized roller shades have no hanging cords, which makes them the safest options for nurseries, playrooms and homes with pets. If you choose a chain-operated shade, keep the chain secured with a tension device and out of reach.

What is the difference between blackout and room-darkening?

Blackout fabric is opaque and stops light from passing through the cloth itself. Room-darkening usually describes a fabric or setup that makes a room noticeably dim without aiming for total darkness. Even with blackout fabric, a little light can show around the edges, so an outside mount helps if you want the darkest result.

Can roller shades fit tilt-turn or other tricky windows?

Often, yes. On tilt-turn windows the shade usually needs to clear the handle and the swing of the sash, so mounting position matters. Shallow frames, angled windows and very wide openings can also need special planning. Book a consultation and we will look at your windows and suggest what will work.

How long does it take to get custom roller shades?

Our shipping policy lists a typical production time of 5–7 business days for roller shades, since every shade is made to order. Shipping time is added on top and depends on where you are.
