Commercial Blinds & Window Coverings in Halifax

Blinds Concept supplies and installs commercial window coverings for general contractors, architects, interior designers, property managers and facility managers in Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford and across Atlantic Canada. We assemble our products in-house at our Burnside head office on Akerley Boulevard, so the people who quote your job are the same people who cut the fabric, build the shades and stand behind them after handover.

Local assembly matters on a commercial schedule. Shorter supply chains mean shorter lead times, fewer surprises when a window size changes late in construction, and a service team that can be on site in the city instead of waiting on a part from across the country.

Projects we work on.

Every building type asks something different of a window covering. We plan products around how each space is used, cleaned and maintained, not just how it looks on the drawings.

Offices: glare control at workstations, consistent façade appearance and meeting rooms that can darken for presentations.

Healthcare and clinics: easy-to-clean fabrics, cordless operation and privacy for exam and treatment rooms.

Schools and libraries: durable manual or motorized shades for classrooms, gyms and tall reading-room glazing.

Multi-unit residential and condos: a uniform look from the street, with suite-by-suite options for owners and tenants.

Hospitality: blackout for guest rooms, layered shades and drapery for lobbies, restaurants and event spaces.

Commercial products.

Most commercial projects are built around roller shades. We supply them in manual chain, spring and motorized versions, single or banded together on one motor, with fascia, pocket and side-channel options to suit the ceiling and window details.

Solar shade fabrics are woven with small openings that let you see out while cutting heat and glare. That openness is described as a percentage. A 1% fabric is the tightest weave: it blocks the most glare and gives the most daytime privacy, but the view is softer. A 3% fabric is the common middle ground for offices, balancing glare control with a clear view. A 5% fabric lets in more light and gives the clearest view, which suits north-facing or shaded windows. Darker colours generally give a clearer view out than lighter ones in the same openness.

Blackout shades use a fully opaque fabric for boardrooms, training rooms, patient rooms and guest suites, and can be paired with side channels to reduce light gaps at the edges. Dual or layered shades put a solar fabric and a blackout fabric on one bracket, so a single window can switch between view and full darkness. For softer spaces we also supply drapery with ceiling or wall-mounted track systems, including motorized tracks for tall or wide openings.

Frequently asked questions

What are typical lead times for commercial window coverings?

Lead time depends on the products, fabrics and quantity, so we confirm it in writing with every quote. Because we assemble in-house in Burnside, most of the time is set by fabric availability and the approved measurements rather than overseas shipping. Tell us your installation window early and we will plan production around it.

Can motorized shades connect to our building systems?

Yes. Motorized shades can run on wall switches, remotes, timers or sensors, and many motor systems offer interfaces for building automation and lighting control systems. We review the control requirements on your drawings, coordinate with the electrical contractor on power and wiring, and include the control details in the submittal package.

Do you offer fire-rated or commercial-grade fabrics?

Yes. We carry commercial-grade fabrics, including options that have been tested to fire standards. Fabric data sheets with the test information for the exact fabrics selected are included with the submittals, so the design team and the authority having jurisdiction can confirm they meet the project's requirements.

Which areas do you serve for commercial projects?

Our head office and assembly are in Burnside, Dartmouth, and we work across Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford and the rest of Nova Scotia. We also take on projects across Atlantic Canada, including Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick, where we coordinate measuring and installation around the project schedule.

What warranty and service do you provide after installation?

Products are covered by the manufacturer warranty on fabric, components and motors, and our installation work is backed by our own workmanship guarantee. Because our team is local, service calls, adjustments and later additions are handled directly by the people who built and installed the shades.
