Custom Drapery & Curtains in Halifax

From older homes on the Halifax peninsula to new builds in Bedford and family homes across Dartmouth, drapery does what few other window coverings can: it softens a room, frames the view and adds warmth on a cold coastal evening. Blinds Concept makes custom drapery and curtains for Halifax-area homes and for commercial spaces such as offices, clinics, restaurants and lobbies.

Every panel is made to the measurements we take in your space, and our team handles the consultation, measuring and installation. You get one point of contact from the first fabric sample to the final steam and dress of the folds.

Drapery styles.

The heading style sets the character of the whole window. We help you choose a style that suits the room, the ceiling height and how often the drapery will be opened and closed.

Pinch pleat: tailored, gathered folds with a classic look for living and dining rooms.

Ripple fold: soft, even waves that stack neatly on a track, ideal for modern spaces and wide glass.

Grommet: rings built into the fabric slide easily along a rod for relaxed, everyday use.

Tab top: fabric loops over the rod for a casual, simple finish.

Roman and fabric shades: drapery fabric made as a shade that folds up, for windows where panels won't fit.

Fabrics and linings.

Fabric and lining decide how much light, privacy and insulation you get. Sheers soften daylight and keep a view while adding daytime privacy. Light-filtering fabrics brighten a room while hiding it from the street. Blackout lining turns almost any face fabric into a room-darkening panel for bedrooms and media rooms.

Thermal lining adds an insulating layer that helps reduce drafts and heat loss through the glass, which is welcome during a Nova Scotia winter. Performance fabrics resist fading, staining and moisture, making them a practical choice for sunny rooms, busy family spaces and commercial interiors.

Rods, tracks and motorization.

Hardware is part of the design. Decorative rods with finials suit traditional rooms and grommet or tab panels. Ceiling or wall-mounted tracks keep pinch pleat and ripple fold drapery gliding smoothly and can follow bay windows and corners.

Motorized drapery tracks open and close heavy or tall drapery at the touch of a button, on a schedule or through a smart-home system. They are a good fit for high windows, wide patio doors and commercial spaces where many panels need to move together.

Layering drapery with shades.

Many rooms work best with two layers. A roller, cellular or solar shade handles daily light and privacy, while drapery adds softness, colour and extra insulation at night. Pairing sheers with blackout drapery gives a bright, private room by day and full darkness when you need it. We plan both layers together so the brackets, stack-back and colours work as one design.

Consultation and process.

It starts with a free in-home consultation in Halifax, Dartmouth or Bedford. We bring fabric samples, talk through how you use the room and look at the windows, walls and ceiling for mounting. After the consultation you receive a written quote. Once you approve it, we take final measurements, make the drapery to those measurements and return to install the hardware, hang the panels and dress the folds so they fall evenly. You can also visit our Burnside showroom to see fabrics in person.

Frequently asked questions

How long do custom drapes take to make?

Timing depends on the fabric, lining and hardware you choose, and we confirm it with your quote. Once your order is approved and final measurements are taken, we keep you updated and book installation as soon as everything is ready.

Do you measure and install drapery in Dartmouth and Bedford?

Yes. Our team measures and installs drapery across Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford and the surrounding Halifax Regional Municipality. The consultation is free and there is no obligation.

Can drapery help keep my home warmer?

Yes. A thermal or blackout lining adds a layer between the room and the glass, which helps reduce drafts and heat loss on cold nights. Floor-length panels and ceiling-mounted tracks that cover the full window give the best result.

Can I motorize my drapes?

Yes. Motorized drapery tracks can be added to most new drapery projects and are controlled by remote, wall switch, schedule or smart-home app. They work especially well for tall windows, wide sliding doors and heavy lined panels.
