How to Measure Motorized Blinds

Motorized roller blinds use the same measurements as a manual roller — but you also need to plan power and control before the brackets go in.

Measurement Basics: Measure width at three points (top, middle, bottom) and record the smallest. Measure height from the top of the recess to the sill for inside mount, or from desired top position to desired bottom for outside mount.

Power Source: Decide where power will come from before measuring. Battery tubes are flexible and need no wiring; hardwired motors require a 12 V or 240 V supply close to the bracket. This may shift your bracket placement by 10–20 mm.

Inside vs Outside Mount: Motorized brackets need 80 mm of recess depth (10 mm more than manual). If you're tight, switch to outside mount and extend 75–100 mm beyond the frame.

Control Compatibility: Motorized blinds can be controlled via Wi-Fi app, RF remote, or scheduled automation (HomeKit / Google / Alexa). On the consultation we confirm your home's Wi-Fi strength at each window and recommend the best hub.

Frequently asked questions

Are batteries or hardwired better?

Battery for retrofits, hardwired for new builds. Battery is silent, cordless and easy to install; hardwired never needs charging.

How long do the batteries last?

6–12 months in a typical residential window. Heavier blockout fabrics and frequent use shorten that range.

Will motorized blinds work with my smart home?

Yes — most of our motors integrate with HomeKit, Google Home, Alexa and SmartThings via the matching hub.

Can I add a motor to an existing manual blind?

Sometimes. We can swap the tube on certain brackets, but it's usually cheaper and cleaner to replace the whole blind.
